Have you ever made eye-to-eye contact with a bear? I have. Or maybe this photo is more like eye-to-lens contact.

This bear visited my yard this morning. I think it’s Patches but somehow it looks smaller than that. Same patch of brown hair on her chest though. Not a big bear; more like a two or three year cub. To get these photos I went outside in the back yard and stood at the fence. The bear could have cared less. I just talked to her and every now and then she’d look up at me. What are you doing, lady? she seemed to say.

Who would have ever thought that I would grow to love having bears in my yard?

I saw a documentary about some guy living with black bears.  He was the alpha male, it was pretty cool the way they respected him.  I went on a hike with some BEAR group members and found out that the mother with five cubs already has 2 strikes. I’d really love to know who would call them in on a complaint.

Her ears are so beautiful! What incredible pictures. Have you ever thought of submitting some of your pics to National Geographic? Really they’re fantastic.

Luke, I certainly hope they don’t take her away from our community because of her two strikes. I think I saw the same documentary on a program called “The Outsiders”. It was awesome.

Reya, you make me blush! Seriously, I don’t think they are that good But thank you! Funny enough it’s the ears that make me think it’s not Patches. This bear’s ears are larger and more rounded. You can look right into their souls by making eye contact with them. It’s great.

I love it when you post about the bear’s visits! We lived close to the city for a while after moving north and I really missed seeing the widlife. Now that we live in a more rural area, my hubby and I love watching the birds and squirrels in the morning. Very cool that you have the added treat of the larger “kids”!

Letty, I never thought about her tags looking like she’s wearing a headset. I wish it were true, but unfortunately it means that she’s been caught and tagged twice. Three times and a bear is out. She seems way to young to have caused any trouble, but maybe when she was younger, as a cub. I like your version much better!
