Good Eats

IMG 3350

Now I know why our garden spider likes her spot so well. Good eats! I think this might be a cicada, but I’m not sure. It was interesting to see her take the wings off first. Later in the day the carcass of the bug was hanging by a thread of the web and had pretty much destroyed the web in the process. By the next morning the web was re-spun and pretty as could be.

By now you know my penchant for naming creatures that hang around my yard. Since this is the third week for this particular spider I have named her Charlotte. Original, eh?

Long live Charlotte!

A cicada would be a HUGE meal for a spider! Charlotte must have been thrilled.

We call our spider Pat because we aren’t sure whether he’s a he or a she. (I suspect a she.)

Steve, it was bigger than she is! It truly destroyed her web. I think she’s set for a few days as far as meals are concerned. I’m glad to hear I’m not the only person who names a spider!

That’s why we call them writing spiders after Charlotte (not the city, the book Charlotte’s Web!!

They are amazing to watch.

Bigsis, okay, I get it now! And of course the book is the reason why I named my spider Charlotte. I think I still have the original book in a box in the basement. At least I think I kept it ...

Interesting strip of webbing? in the right side of the picture - it looks like a snowflake someone has made with all the scissor cuts before it’s been unfolded if you know what I mean.

C, it’s her signature spin on things! Every morning that strip is different. And I know exactly what you mean!

You have a very talented spider!  A true artist.  Maybe you should call her Georgia after Georgia O’Keefe instead of Charlotte.  grin

C, she is extremely talented to come up with a new design every day. Sometimes it’s rather messy. Georgia is not a bad name, but since I loved the book so much as a child it has to be Charlotte for me.

I’m so glad Charlotte is in your garden - I’m not a fan of creepy crawlies.

Joyce, I’m glad she’s in my garden too! wink She is tucked away from the mainstream of things up against the fence so she is not a bother.
