Ingredients:
1 very large lemon
1 qt pure grain alcohol or unflavored Vodka
2 cups cold water
1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
8-10 drops freshly squeezed lemon juice

Instructions:
1. Wrap the lemon in cheesecloth and tie like a package with strong kitchen string, leaving the end long.
2. Pour the alcohol into a tall jar with a lid draping the ends of the string over the edges to suspend the lemon above the alcohol. (Some jars have lids into which one can stick a wine cork that holds the strings.) Close the jar tightly and seal with plastic wrap to make it air tight.
3. Place the jar in a dark, cool place for 1 month.
4. When ready, prepare a simple syrup by adding the sugar and lemon juice to the water, bring to a simmer and allow to simmer for about an hour, until reduced by 1/2. Allow to cool.
5. Mix the alcohol and syrup well, pour into a serving jar or two, seal with a lid/cork and place in the refrigerator. Is ready to drink after one week.
6. Serve in well chilled glasses.
