Does spelling really matter?
Several people have sent me this message, so I thought I’d pass it along to you. I suspect the proposed hypothesis is true for fluent readers and for shorter words. See what I mean by clicking on “more”.
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a wlohe.
I wonder where this message originated? I too got it in my mailbox some time back. It’s quite true, isn’t it?
The only problem is that it rather demolishes another pet rant of mine: the disintegration of proper spelling due to text messaging shortcuts. Ah well . . .
