Wild Mushrooms

This gallery features photos of wild mushrooms. Most photos were taken by Lynne and me around our mountain cabin in Colorado. However, there is also a guest gallery for photos submitted to me by other people. You can view all photos starting on this page or select just photos only from one of the galleries below.

While I may occasionally comment on mushroom edibility, you should not identify nor try eating any mushroom based only on the information on this site. You should never try tasting or eating any wild mushroom without an experienced mycologist to help you identify it. Many edible mushrooms have poisonous or toxic "look alikes".

All photos except those submitted by guests are © Copyright 2004 -2011, Rick & Lynne Robinson. Please respect our copyright and contact us if you'd like to use any photo.

Unidentified

Still unidentified. If these are around in 2005, I’ll do a more rigorous job in attempting to identify.

Suillus Tomentosus

This beautiful yellow-ish mushroom is also known as a “poor man’s slippery jack”. Supposedly edible, but not very good.

Suillus Tomentosus

Note this mushroom has “pores” instead of “gills” underneath. This is from the family of mushrooms called boletes.

Possible Leucopaxillus Amarus

I never did identify this mushroom with absolute certainty. They were very prolific throughout the summer and grew quite large. If it is a laucopaxillus amarus, it is inedible.
