Under Terri’s Cherry Tree

Lynne Robinson, Hewitt, New Jersey

My neighbor, Terri, at the beginning of our little dead-end street, has a gorgeous cherry tree. I took a walk down there this week to visit it. Standing underneath its bloom-laden boughs was awe-inspiring. I found this poem which just about says it all.

Latter summer fall and winter,

You stand ordinary.

Come spring, faithfully, you blossom.

And in pink attire, you beautify.

Lynne Robinson, Hewitt, New Jersey

Inhaling slow and deep,

I capture your scent:

Admire your loveliness.

Your stature like a goddess.

Lynne Robinson, Hewitt, New Jersey

Your limbs aloof.

Your silky petals sacred—too delicate to hold.

Placidly, you flirt.

Appeasing obliviously.

A savage rain,

A whirl of biting wind.

A fleeting existence toppled.

A bed of pink petals—-

Lynne Robinson, Hewitt, New Jersey

Blanket the verdant ground.

I lie down in your remnants.

Beautiful post! That poem really captures the tree’s “awe-inspiring” gait. Its kinda like the tree stands with pride. There’s a pair of pink and white trees (well they have pink and white blossoms, that is) by the new road I’ve gotta show you!
Today was nice, but tomorrow’s gunna be sunnier and 70!
See you on a rainy-looking Monday!

P.S—The Ponderosa is anything but dead-end. I like to think it’s never ending as it extends it’s life through all those various trails and woods carresing the mountains and swamps til it reachs the lake. Sounds nicer than a dead-end street, at least!  =] haha how many times do you think I’ve put a “P.S’ on a comment?

That was great.  I love your photos.  The robin is very good!

In answer to your question as to when to plant iris…around here I think August or September planting allows for a good start before cold weather.  Sounds like you may in a similar growing zone, and that plan may work best for you, too.

Luke, ok, tell me again how old you really are? Geez, you’re poetic!
OK, dead-end street may not be the right choice of words if you’re going to look at it in that way. How about we just say you can’t “drive” through it? Or ... a forest path runs through it?

Becky, thanks for visiting, and yes, I think our growing zones are quite similar, tho in NJ we don’t have the truly hard freezes of below zero you have in CO. I will plan to plant in that time frame and it should work.

Beautiful photos and a lovely tribute to the cherry tree.

Warmest wishes,
firefly

Stunning photos! I bet the scent is amazing… Love the photo of Robin with his lunch.

BTW, you could say your street is a cul de sac or a close.
